The International 2017 Battlepass has already been out for 2 days and players have already started gaining levels hoping to reach that 2225 level. Finishing the 3 quest lines gives a massive boost to the levels as well as granting 3 new cosmetic sets. Let us take a look at what heroes to choose so that you can finish the quests with considerable ease.
The International 2017 Battlepass changed the quests a little bit this time around by adding a team quest line. The team quest line encourages players to party with their friends and finish the quests. The Quest lines are named Path of the Navigator, Path of the Wave Breaker and Path of the Rising Tide.
Path of the Navigator
Shoreline Sapper Style Unlock
Path of the Navigator is more of a support oriented quest line which grants the Shoreline Sapper set (Ogre Magi) and the style upgrade if players finish all the quests in three star difficulty. Let us take a look at each quest and find out a suitable hero for it.
Caster and Commander
Win 1 / 3 / 5 Games with an Intelligence hero.
This is a relatively easy quest as 5 wins with an Intelligence hero is all that is required. The quest is mostly self explanatory.
Root 10 / 20 / 30 enemy Heroes.
This quest is a fairly easy one considering the many options one has to root the enemy heroes.
Root with hero abilities
Crystal Maiden – Frostbite (Q) – Single Target
Ember Spirit – Searing Chains(Q) – Single Target
Meepo – Earthbind(Q) – Target Area
Naga Siren – Ensnare(W) – Single Target
Razor – Unstable Current(E) – Passive
One thing that most people don’t know is that you can use Razor to root your enemies. Razor’s passive, Unstable Current roots the enemy heroes for 0.33 seconds when a spell is cast on Razor. Do not rely on this too much if you want to finish the quest in 3 star difficulty.
Techies – Stasis Trap(W) – Target Area
You can use this to root multiple heroes in a target area but beware of a BKB as Stasis Trap doesn’t pierce through spell immunity.
Underlord – Pit of Malice(W) – Target Area
Pit of Malice affects a target area and therefore, you can use it to root multiple heroes. This spell too, doesn’t pierce spell immunity.
Treant Protector – Overgrowth(R) – Radius of 800
This is one of the best rooting spells in the whole game as Treant Protecter’s ultimate can be used to root multiple enemies. It pierces through spell immunity as well.
Spirit Bear – Entangling Claws – Passive
Lone Druid’s Spirit Bear is one more option to root the enemy heroes. The best thing with this ability is that you need not cast it and it pierces through spell immunity as well. But there is a catch to this. You must level up your Summon Spirit Bear ability to level 3 to gain this ability.
Root with Items
Rod of Atos – Cripple
Rod of Atos roots the enemy heroes for 2 seconds. The problem with a Rod of Atos is that it costs 3100 gold and is not viable on every hero.
It is better you choose a hero to complete this quest to gain 800 battle points.
Place 20 / 40 / 60 Observer Wards for your team.
This is a relatively easy quest. Take any support hero and become the ward bitch of your team. The quest is self explanatory.
Slow enemy heroes of a total of 30 / 60 / 90 seconds using Shiva’s Guard.
Shiva’s Guard is a costly item and is not viable on every hero. It costs 4700 gold and since supports cannot afford such a costly item, it is better you pick a core hero for this quest.
The best heroes to build a Shiva’s Guard on are:
Timbersaw, Axe, Queen of Pain, Invoker, Storm Spirit, Lina(situational), Tidehunter, Ember Spirit or any other tanky heroes like Underlord, Centaur.
Get 2 / 4 / 6 Kills or Assists on heroes while they are disabled by your stun.
This is a pretty easy quest. You can do this with many heroes. This can be done by either a support or a core.
Cores like Windranger, Wraith King, Centaur, Lina, Luna, Mirana, Magnus have a really good stun in which they can easily kill an enemy support.
Supports like Ogre Magi, Shadow Shaman, Lion, Jakiro have a really good stun to work with and easy to gain kills or assists.
But, the best hero to complete this quest with is Bane, as his Fiend’s Grip stuns the enemy hero for a good seconds(7 with an Aghanim’s Scepter). This duration is enough to guarantee an assist or a kill. But, remember that Fiend’s Grip cooldown is too high.
Deal 1500 / 3000 / 4500 Damage while under effect of Glimmer Cape.
This quest again is a relatively easy one. Glimmer Cape is generally called a poor man’s BKB. It is a good item on supports who cannot afford a BKB right away.
The best heroes to finish this quest with are:
Witch Doctor: Glimmer Cape yourself and use Witch Doctor’s Death Ward.
Crystal Maiden: Build a Glimmer Cape and use it while you cast your ultimate. You probably have a high chance to finish off this quest in no time.
Zeus: Glimmer Cape on Zeus isn’t that great but the upside is that you can Glimmer Cape yourself and use Zeus’ ultimate. Easy damage!
Hex your enemies by any means necessary for a total of 20 / 40 / 60 seconds.
Hex with hero abilities
Lion – Hex(W) – Single Target
This spell doesn’t pierce through spell immunity but provides a hex for 2.5/3/3.5/4 seconds. It is pretty easy to finish this quest with Lion.
Shadow Shaman – Hex(W) – Single Target
This spell too doesn’t pierce through spell immunity and hexes the enemy for 1.25/2/2.75/3.5 seconds. But, it has a cooldown of 13 seconds when compared to Lion’s cooldown of 30/24/18/12 seconds.
Hex with items
Scythe of Vyse – Hex
Scythe of Vyse is a pretty costly item which can be afforded only in the late game. It can be used to augment your already present hex time but don’t rely on this item alone to finish the quest.
Better stick with Lion or Shadow Shaman to finish this quest.
Can’t Escape the Noose
Deal 1000 / 3000 / 5000 Damage to enemy heroes that are in Ethereal Form.
You can’t deal physical damage to heroes that are in the ethereal form. So, your best bet is to go for magical burst damage. There are a lot of heroes that are suitable for this quest but the most notable are Morphling, Pugna.
You can also use an ethereal blade and a Dagon for maximum effect.
No Prey No Pay
Earn 4000 / 8000 / 10000 Gold for your team.
Take Bounty Hunter to earn team gold using track.
Another way to do this quest is to last hit towers, take Roshan, last hit buildings and Barracks.
Remember that you’re earning gold for your team. So, your individual gold doesn’t count.
Stun 8 / 12 / 16 enemy heroes after using Blink Dagger.
Generally, initiators like Tidehunter, Centaur use a Blink Dagger to blink in and stun multiple enemies. Both Centaur’s Hoofstomp and Tidehunter’s Ravage can stun multiple enemies easily.
Sandking is also a viable hero as Blink Dagger is a core item on him.
With Tidehunter, this quest can be easily finished. But, do remember that Ravage has a really long cooldown.
Deal 2000 / 4000 / 6000 or more Pure damage to enemy heroes.
Timbersaw is the pure damage specialist in the whole game as all his abilities deal pure damage.
Don’t get too carried away with this list as there is a catch to it. Abaddon’s Mist coil is pure damage to the caster but magical damage to the target
Medusa’s Mystic Snake deals pure damage only when the target is affected by Stone Gaze.
Lina’s Laguna Blade is pure damage only when the player buys Aghanim’s Scepter.
Whirling Death deals pure damage if it cuts trees within its 300 radius on the same cast, else it deals magical damage.
Heal 3 or more of your allies with Mekansm at once a total of 3 / 6 / 9 times.
This is a very easy quest and can be done within no time. Just pick heroes like Tidehunter, Dark Seer, Necrophos, Enigma, Bounty Hunter and finish the quest.
This quest is self-explanatory.
Hit three or more enemy heroes with a single spell 10 / 30 / 50 times.
Heroes with AOE spells like Legion Commander, Jakiro, Zeus, Shadow Shaman, Underlord, Meepo, Queen of Pain, Silencer, Lina,Medusa can be used to finish this quest.
As there are a lot of heroes which have AOE spells, I will cut the list short as the above mentioned heroes are good enough to finish the quest.
Absorb 3 / 6 / 9 spells targeted on your ally with Linken’s Sphere or Lotus Orb.
Make Linken’s Sphere on heroes like Morphling, Weaver, Ember Spirit, Invoker and cast it on your ally to break the spells targeted on them.
Make Lotus Orb on heroes like Axe, Centaur and cast them on your ally to repel the spells targeted on them.
THUNK enemy heroes with your weapon 50 / 100 / 150 times,
and DING-DING-DING enemies with Fireblast or Ignite a total of 10 / 20 / 30 times.
This quest can only be done using Ogre Magi.
The rest of the quest is self-explanatory.
This concludes the Path of the Navigator.

Path of the Wavebreaker
Reef Kyte Rider
Reef Kyte Rider Style Unlock
Path of the Wavebreaker grants the Reef Kyte Rider (Luna) set when the final quest is completed and the style upgrade if all the quests are completed with 3 star difficulty. Let us take a look at the quests in this path.
Win 1 / 3 / 5 games with an Agility hero.
This is a self explanatory quest and any Agility hero will suffice.
Win 1 / 3 / 5 games with an Strength hero.
This is a self explanatory quest and any Strength hero will suffice.
Have no more than 5 / 3 / 1 deaths at the end of the game.
This quest is up to the player to play safe in the game. For the least amount of deaths, try taking the Aegis or try playing Wraith King as his ultimate gives you another chance before you die.
Bash enemy heroes for a total of 12 / 24 / 36 times.
Enemy heroes can be bashed in two ways. One way is to use the heroes’ abilities and another way is to use items.
Bash with hero abilities
Monkey King – Boundless Strike(Q) – Active
For some weird reason, Monkey King’s first ability is registered as bash. Since it is an active, it is the most reliable bash source. It is easy to stun(bash) multiple enemies at the same time.
Faceless Void – Time Lock – Passive
Don’t hesitate to bash using Faceless Void as it pierces spell immunity.
Slardar – Bash of the Deep – Passive
Slardar’s bash deals physical damage and pierces through spell immunity with a proc chance of 10%/15%/20%/25%. With the talents included, it goes up to 35%
Spirit Breaker – Greater bash – Passive
Spirit Breaker’s bash pierces through spell immunity and has a proc chance of 17%. With talents included, it can go upto 34%.
Troll Warlord – Berseker’s Rage
Troll Warlord’s bash pierces through spell immunity and has a proc chance of 10%. But remember that the bash applies only when he is in his melee form.
Doom – Infernal Blade
Doom’s Infernal Blade is a reliable bash and has a cooldown of 16/12/8/4 seconds. But, this ability doesn’t pierce through spell immunity.
Treant Protector – Nature’s Guise – Passive
Treant Protector also bashes heroes reliably if it breaks it hits a hero to break its invisibility. It pierces through spell immunity too.
You can also use any of the below bash items on Monkey King and use Wukong’s Command in a fight.
Bash with items
The proc chance is 25% on melee heroes and 10% on ranged heroes. It is better that you use melee cores if you want to use Skull Basher.
The proc chance is the same as a Skull Basher but the damage is more. Use a melee core if you want to build this item.
Monkey King Bar
MKB has a mini bash of 0.1 seconds and a massive proc chance of 35%. If you want to complete this quest on a hero that doesn’t have a bash ability, go for this item and you can finish the quest with ease.
Kill a single enemy 2 / 3 / 4 times.
This is a rather self-explanatory quest and I don’t wan’t to really expand upon it.
Debuff your enemies with Medallion of Courage for a total of 30 / 60 / 90 seconds.
Medallion of Courage is a really overpowered item this patch. Make it on heroes like Dazzle, Vengeful Spirit, Tusk or Slardar and use it on enemies continuously as it has a really small cooldown of 7 seconds. It doesn’t pierce through spell immunity when cast on enemies.
Purge 5 / 10 / 15 debuffs using Manta Style.
Manta Style can also be used to purge debuffs on a hero. You can build Manta Style on heroes like Spectre, Naga Siren, Terrorblade, Chaos Knight, Riki, Medusa, Anti Mage, Luna, Phantom Lancer, Viper or Morphling.
Get 3 / 6 / 9 Kills or Assists on heroes that are under protection of their Tower.
Use ranged heroes to finish this quests as it is easy for them to hit enemies under their own tower.
Consume Moon Shard yourself or use it on allies 2 / 4 / 6 times.
Choose Alchemist and you can easily make a Moon Shard for yourself as well as your team mates.
Deal 2000 / 4000 / 6000 damage from critical hits.
Use heroes like Phantom Assassin, Brewmaster, Chaos Knight, Juggernaut, Wraith King and Bounty Hunter to deal Critical Damage as a passive.
Monkey King’s Boundless Strike(Q) also deals critical damage to the enemies. Sniper’s Assassinate(R) with an Aghanim’s Scepter and Tusk’s Walrus Punch(R) and Lycan’s Shapeshift(R) are some other sources of Critical Damage.
Coming to items, Crystallis, Daedulus, Bloodthorn deal critical damage with Daedulus dealing the highest.
Chum in the Water
Get 15 / 20 / 25 charges on a Bloodstone.
Bloodstone is really good on heroes like Timbersaw, Lina, Storm Spirit. With a good team and a decent amount of kills, you can easily build 25 bloodstone charges on your hero.
Burial at BKB
Get 2 / 4 / 6 Kills or Assists on enemy heroes after using Black King Bar.
BKB is an item that can be made on any hero, provided that the enemy team deals a high amount of magical damage and the hero has enough gold to make the item.
The quest is self eplanatory.
Deal 2000 / 4000 / 6000 damage using controlled units.
Heroes like Invoker, Lycan, Beastmaster, Enigma and Nature’s prophet have controlled units as their abilities while , Enchantress and Chen can control neutral creeps with their abilities.
Helm of the Dominator can be used to control neutral creeps while Necronomicon can be used to summon controlled units.
Achieve 7500 / 10000 / 12500 net worth by 25:00 minutes.
Use heroes like Alchemist or good farming cores like Anti Mage, Naga Siren, Spectre to finish this quest.
Hit 20 / 40 / 60 enemy heroes with Lucent Beams from any source, and kill 10 / 15 / 20 creeps in 30 seconds or less.
This quest can only be done using Luna. Try making Aghanim’s Scepter on Luna to finish the quest with considerable ease.
The quest is self-explanatory.

Spines of the Sunken Galoer Style Unlock
Spines of the Sunken Galoer
This quest line is a team quest and you must coordinate with your team mates to finish it. I would recommend you to play in a five man stack so that you can have synergy with your teammates. This quest line offers Spikes of the Sunken Galoer(Slardar) and the style unlock if you can get 34 stars on this quest line. Let us take a look at how to finish these quests.
Kill 2 / 3 / 4 towers as a team before you lose one.
Take an aggressive lineup like Terrorblade combined with Dazzle to finish this quest. Use Terrorblade’s Metamorphosis wisely and push the towers.
Kill 2 enemy towers within 90 / 60 / 30 seconds of each other before the game reaches 30 minutes.
The only way you can achieve this quest is to split push two lanes and take out two enemy towers within thirty seconds of each other.
Use split pushing lineups with Beastmaster, Lycan and Nature’s Prophet to complete this quest.
Disable enemy heroes for 250 / 350 / 450 seconds with your team.
Use heroes like Bane, Tidehunter, Centaur and such AOE disable heroes to finish this quest.
Achieve total team healing of 10000 / 15000 / 20000.
Use a healing lineup consisting of Witch Doctor, Dazzle, Necrophos and make sure that one core in your team makes Vladmir’s offering so that you can achieve the maximum team heal.
All Hands on Deck
Get 25 / 35 / 45 total assists with your team before the game timer reaches 25:00.
Each kill in which all your teammates are involved gives your team 5 assists. In the same manner, you should get 45 assists combined on your whole team.
Rolling Fog Gank
Smoke and kill an enemy hero 1 / 2 / 3 times with 2 teammates.
Take an initiator with you and try to gain a kill on your enemy. This quest is actually quite self-explanatory.
Battle Cup Buccaneer
Win 1 / 2 / 3 Battle Cup games.
Self explanatory quest.
Have your team get first blood, first tower kill, and first Roshan kill.
Having Ursa in your lineup would be really helpful as you can easily get first blood, first tower kill and the first Roshan kill.
Give no Quarter
Have 10 / 12 / 14 team kills before 15:00.
Self explanatory quest.
Deal 20000 / 40000 / 60000 or more Physical damage to enemy heroes with your team.
Take heroes like Phantom Assassin and heroes who deal critical damage for this quest. Use items like Daedulus and Blood thorn as well.
Our Aura be Our Ally
Be simultaneously affected by 6 / 9 / 12 auras present on your team.
The quest is a little bit bugged right now and Valve has been made aware of this issue.
Remember that if you have a Vladmir’s Offering or Helm of the Dominator Aura on your team, a Headress aura won’t work as an additional aura as a Headress is used to build both of the above mentioned items.
Heroes which provide Aura
There are too many heroes which provide aura to allies, but let us take a look at some heroes. Vengeful Spirit, Luna, Wraith King, Crystal Maiden, Drow Ranger, Outworld Devourer are some of the heroes. For the full list visit here.
Items which provide Aura
Items like Drums of Endurance, Assault Cuirass, Guardian Greaves, Vladmir’s Offering, Helm of the Dominator, Pipe of Insight, Mekansm, Headress, Ring of Basillus and Ring of Aquilla provide Aura.
Leave the party in Runes
Pick up or Bottle a total of 20 / 30 / 40 Runes with your team before the game time reaches 30 minutes.
Self explanatory quest.
Earn your Sea Legs
Win 1 / 2 / 3 games in Captain’s Mode.
Self explanatory quest.
